RAPPEL DE 6 Millions de livres de viande aux USA

L'USDA (Département de l'Agriculture des Etats Unis) a rappelé 6 Millions de livres de viande produit par Bauer Meat Company de Ocala (Floride) suite à la mort d'un enfant de deux ans qui avait contracté E. coli O157:H7 dans le "Atlanta water park". Le steak haché à base de porc et de bœuf concerné était en effet impropre à la consommation humaine.

En juin 98, une douzaine d'enfants ont également été contaminés par le même germe suite à la défécation de l'un d'entre eux dans une piscine du même parc d'attraction ; l'analyse de l'échantillon a été faite à l'aide d'un test d'ADN, qui est une technique relativement ressente. Il n'a pas été reconnu que l'un des enfants qui se baignait dans la piscine avait mangé des produits de Bauer Meat Company. En août dernier, l'USDA avait pris la décision de fermer l'atelier de Bauer. Le jour suivant, M. Frank Sigmund Bauer (60 ans), propriétaire de l'atelier, s'est suicidé par une balle dans la tête.

The CDC says that 42 percent of all reported food poisoning outbreaks were traced to food eaten in restaurants, delicatessens, and cafeterias, compared to 21 percent for food eaten at home.
