SANTE VICTORIA OCT 2002 Surveillance of Notifiable Diseases in Victoria - Report 2001
Several infectious diseases were added to the schedule of notifiable diseases in 2001, including invasive pneumococcal disease, laboratory confirmed influenza, and cryptosporidiosis. The first two of these are potentially preventable through vaccination, and surveillance plays a critical role in monitoring the impact of current public health interventions. Cryptosporidiosis has emerged in recent years as a pathogen of considerable public health importance, with the need to quickly identify and control outbreaks from any contaminated sources.
