Traitement de l'eau et economie

Des chercheurs de Perth et d'Adelaide ont concu un nouveau systeme de stockage d'eau potable qui evite les pertes de matiere dues a l'evaporation. Ces scientifiques du CSIRO ont determine que la construction de barrages souterrains s'averait techniquement et economiquement faisable. Combine a des methodes de recyclage, de traitement et de desalinisation (desormais jugee competitive), l'utilisation intensive des aquiferes eviterait la construction de nouveaux barrages. Une telle solution offrirait egalement des capacites de stockage importantes, permettant une visibilite d'une saison sur l'autre. Il est egalement important de noter qu'il est plus facile de trouver des aquiferes que des sites propices a la construction de barrages. De plus, dans le cadre d'un stockage souterrain, l'eau serait mieux protegee des algues
microbiennes et des pollutions atmospheriques.
Les recherches se portent maintenant sur les techniques permettant de transformer les unites de stockage actuelles vers cette solution. Les solutions trouvees pour eviter ces pertes par evaporation obtiennent
un taux de rendement proche de 100%, meme pour le cas des aquiferes salins (en deversant lentement l'eau dans l'aquifere pour eviter son melange a l'eau salee).
La securite biologique de tels stockages d'eau est garantie par un systeme de 'geopurification ' : des organismes sont naturellement presents dans ce type d'installations et suffisent a reduire en 40 jours les organismes nocifs a des niveaux indetectables.
Pour un pays qui est regulierement a court d'eau potable de qualite, ces perspectives d'amelioration representent une solution intelligente et respectueuse de l'environnement.
